Man I totally missed the run on the Lengthen Your Stride Working Draft. I’ve looked everywhere to find a used copy but no success. If anyone has any leads or is selling a copy I would be thrilled to get my hands on one…

If I’m not mistaken, Bushman is also finishing a manuscript on some theme concerning the Book of Mormon. Sorry I can’t be more specific.

Nate, Bushman is apparently close to finishing a work on farming in the colonial period/early republic, which I suspect will use Mormons as examples but Mormonism will not be a significant or even minor theme. He has also mentioned a project looking at the Gold Plates in Mormon history, but I’m not sure what progress he’s made on that.

“Signature’s 3-volume history of Joseph Smith?”

We had some tough decisions at Signature Books this year. We had several really good manuscripts to choose from. (May we be cursed with this dilemma each year!) In our biography slot, we chose to go with the Laurine Ekstrom Kingston biography. All three of the Joseph Smith biographies are far enough along that we could announce them. So now it’s just waiting their turn on our production line. they will very likely be in our next lineup. That is if the Smith-Pettit foundation doesn’t snake the project away from Signature and publish it themselves.

Keep an eye out for the six vol. Set of “History of the Church” by Joseph Smith, Dan Vogel Editor, published by the Smith-Pettit foundation later this year. (now if Vogel and Marquardt will just finish up the “legal papers,” I think we will be able to safely announce that we are once again, well ahead of the JSP project. And just under our budget of $800.)

Larry, what J. said. I had heard that the plan was to get it out for his 100th birthday which is in March, I think. Another source said it kept getting cut down over the years. Started at about 1200 pages, then 800, now about 600.

Not sure about the JS project…I’ll ask around.

This is very nice. Do you have an update on two supposed books that I’ve heard have been in the works for years: 1)Nibley’s “magnum opus” on the Book of Abraham that he spent many years towards the end of his life working on, and 2) Signature’s 3-volume history of Joseph Smith?
