Anyway, I really did like this post and the analysis of Emerson&#039;s ideas about sin.  Bravo for that &quot;Circles&quot; quote especially.  I think that pretty much sums it up.  I was also thinking about another quote...perhaps in Self-Reliance?  I&#039;d have to look it up, but to paraphase: &quot;Evil is not the power opposite of Goodness, it is simply the absence of it.&quot; 

In this then, he REALLY denies the idea of sin, not just in his &quot;hypertheism&quot; and optimism of man, but by denying its very existence!
