I would so like to make a meaningful comment here, and even more add a source for your consideration, but I can’t. I’m overwhelmed. I’m envious. I’m looking forward to seeing your life movie (if my seminary teacher was right — not likely) so I can watch your mind at work.

Thanks, Ben. Without the nerd humor, this stuff can get, *ahem*, long-winded and dry.

“Holy cow, indeed.” Ha! I hadn’t thought of the horn angle (and I left out the 12 oxen holding up baptismal fonts, etc.). I’ll have to go looking for horns. My impression was that they were related to the cuckold tradition or simply demons.

But whatever the origin, you are, in my opinion, exactly right: Mormon identity was constructed as emphatically Other and the “horns” bit is just a relic of different times. Thanks for reading in detail.
